Hello fellow birders,
We are pleased to announce that our two SE Alberta May Species counts are now open for registration:
- Brooks – Lake Newell: Saturday, May 16 & Sunday, May 17
- Milk River – Writing-on-Stone: Saturday, May 23 & Sunday, May 24
If you would like to register for either or both counts, please contact Debra at debra.hornsby.banff@gmail.com to receive the registration link. Registration will close on May 1, 2026.
A reminder to attend the pre-count meetings on the Fridays before each count. At these meetings, we will:
- Assign count areas
- Distribute maps and checklists
- Review count protocols
- Introduce fellow birders
- Answer questions
Please plan to attend.
New this year: The Friday, May 15 (6:30 PM) Brooks meeting will be a potluck.
We will also host gatherings on Saturday evenings to assign Sunday count areas and to share birding stories.
Because weather can be unpredictable during the Brooks weekend, we have reserved a meeting space at the Heritage Inn. Participants in the Brooks count are asked to contribute a non-refundable $10 fee to cover meeting room costs.
After registering, please e-transfer $10 per person to Donna Wieckowski at astolat@shaw.ca (remove asterisks) no later than May 1. E-transfer is preferred, but cheques and cash are also accepted (contact Donna by email for mailing details).
Accommodation:
The Brooks Heritage Inn is offering a special rate of $127 per night for participants. Camping options are also available for the Brooks count—contact Debra for details.
