Current Conservation Programs in Development:
Alberta Native Bee Program:
- The Stewarship Committee is working with Alberta Native Bee Council for program at Frank Lake – December 2025
- The Stewardship Committee is now a part of and a registered site for the Alberta Native Bee Program- January 2026
- The Stewardship Committee sent conservation proposal to Ducks Unlimited Canada for their approval – February 2026
- 10 Bee boxes are currently being constructed – March 2026
Current Conservation Projects:
Bat Boxes:
- Site location for bat boxes with Wildlife Conservation Society( WCS) bat biologist – Completed January 30, 2026
- Sent proposal for site locations to Ducks Unlimited Canada – Completed February 2026
- Ducks Unlimited Canada approval of the Community bat program and box locations – Completed February 2026
- The Stewardship Committee is working with a WCS bat box provider to build 6 bat boxes – February 2026
Frank Lake Island Rehabilitation (Greg Wagner Legacy Project)
- The Stewardship Committee is taking on this project in Greg Wagner’s honour, which was a project he wanted done in his lifetime, but sadly, passed away before it could become a reality. Nature Calgary and the Stewardship Committee are working collaboratively to fulfill this wish, dubbing it the “Greg Wagner Legacy Project – Frank Lake Island Rehabilitation.”
- First meeting to bring all the Stewardship Committee members together on this project – January 2026
- The Stewardship Committee and Director of Special Projects for Nature Calgary engaging with different companies for the island rehabilitation objective, scope, and potential cost. February 2026
- The Stewardship Committee and The Director of Special Projects meeting with Ducks Unlimited Canada about the project – February 26, 2026
