Not ANOTHER Pandemic—Highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds
Presenter: Dr. Dayna Goldsmith
This presentation will begin with a brief introduction of what it means to be an influenza virus and the history of avian influenza in Canada. The presentation will then move into a review of the current outbreak with a focus on wild birds including how we do surveillance for avian influenza in the province, a discussion of what I have seen here at the diagnostic lab (this will include images of dead birds and tissues) and current trends across North America. At the end of the talk I will go through the answers to some commonly asked questions including those that have already been brought forward by the group.
