Bringing Back the Bison in Banff National Park

Banff National Park reintroduced sixteen Plains Bison to a remote corner of the park in 2017 for a five-year trial. Today, there are more than one hundred wild bison, and it looks like they are here to stay. Discover how and why this project is restoring ecological and cultural connections, and what Parks Canada is learning as the herd grows.
Laurie is an Outreach Educator for Banff National Park and a founding member of Parks Canada’s Mountain WIT, a group dedicated to sharing the stories of Banff National Park in a fun and memorable way. She is the author of “A Beary, Berry Good Day/ Une «baie» bonne journée,” an award-winning bilingual children’s book about bears in Banff National Park. Her dedication to public service and creativity in education programs was recognized with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
