Nature Alberta and Nature Canada would like to invite you to our Important Bird Areas (IBA) Workshop on Feb 6 & 7, 2016 at the Varscona Hotel on Whyte in Edmonton, Alberta, where we hope to kick-start renewed interest in Alberta’s IBA program. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to network and develop partnerships to advance IBA conservation activities in Alberta and link to national and international efforts.

At this workshop we will discuss:

  • The IBA program – globally and locally
  • Conservation planning for IBA sites past and current
  • Environment Canada’s Bird Conservation Region priorities
  • What’s changed and what we can do to help
  • The IBA Caretaker program and why it is important
  • The value of eBird and other data collection methods to help support IBAs and conservation
  • Human causes of avian mortality and strategies to overcome some of these challenges
