Not ANOTHER Pandemic—Highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds
Presenter: Dr. Dayna Goldsmith
This presentation will begin with a brief introduction of what it means to be an influenza virus and the history of avian influenza in Canada. The presentation will then move into a review of the current outbreak with a focus on wild birds including how we do surveillance for avian influenza in the province, a discussion of what I have seen here at the diagnostic lab (this will include images of dead birds and tissues) and current trends across North America. At the end of the talk I will go through the answers to some commonly asked questions including those that have already been brought forward by the group.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Dayna Goldsmith Graduated from UCVM in 2013 as part of the second graduating class of vet students. Completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of California Davis becoming a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2016. Worked as a sessional instructor as part of the department of Ecosystem and Public Health at UCVM for 9 months in 2016-2017. Returned to California to work as a diagnostic pathologist at one of the state labs in the central valley
