We’re teaming up to remove invasive plants—pesky species that crowd out our beautiful native vegetation and make life harder for the birds and wildlife that call the island home. \nNo experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors! We’ll provide all the tools\, some plant ID tips\, and a chance to learn more about the island’s natural beauty. It’s a great way to give back\, get your hands dirty (in a good way)\, and enjoy a few laughs with fellow nature lovers. \nExpect a little sweat\, a lot of satisfaction\, and maybe even a few feathered friends cheering you on. Calgary is no exception with nearly 400 people participating across the city in an effort to identify\, count\, and record every single bird overwintering within our count circle. Essentially this is a census of our winter bird populations. The Calgary Count Circle is 24km wide and is centered on the 10th street bridge over the Bow River. For 73 years\, Calgarian’s have participated in this event giving us a deeper look into how our urban landscape has changed and affected the biodiversity within it. It’s important and at the same time fun! \nJoin expert guides from Nature Calgary while participating in the field!
