DESCRIPTION:On the island it is common to see Downy Woodpeckers\, Hairy Woodpeckers\, Norther Flickers\, Bald Eagles\, winter waterfowl\, and surprise visitors. Although most of the trails are free of ice\, the trail beside the Bow can be very icy\, so please bring spikes for your shoes. The icy section can be bypassed and the rest of the trails are suitable for all physical abilities. All walks will start and end at the parking lot located directly north of 656 Confluence Way SE on the RiverWalk pathway. Please dress for the cold! Experience breathtaking landscapes\, unique wildlife\, and the rich history of this remote Arctic region. Don’t miss this extraordinary adventure! \nJohn McFaul is a professional naturalist who has been leading nature walks and hikes for 35 years. A native Calgarian\, he received a BSc degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Calgary. From 1986-2003 he worked for City of Calgary Parks as a naturalist for the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. John is the past-president and an honourary member of the Calgary Field Naturalists’ Society (Nature Calgary) and has been awarded the prestigious Loran L. Goulden Award and the Frank and Alice Harper Memorial Award from the Federation of Alberta Naturalists (Nature Alberta). John is an accredited Professional Interpreter with the Interpretive Guides Association.\n \nNature Calgary members will receive a Zoom link for the event via email.\nNon-members can register to attend here.
