SUMMARY:Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park
DESCRIPTION:Nature Calgary will again offer field trips to explore Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park by golf cart. \nGlenbow Ranch Provincial Park contains some of the last remaining foothills fescue grassland as well as a scattered mosaic of wetland and woodland areas. This diverse habitat provides home to a wide variety of bird species. Unfortunately\, many of the best birding locations require walking long distances to reach. For birders to experience the best of Glenbow Ranch\, we are offering golf cart tours where we will travel about 20 km to visit the most productive areas. Over three hours\, expect to see or hear about 50 species including grassland and foothills specialties like Vesper Sparrow\, Mountain Bluebird\, and Western Meadowlark as well as riparian species like Baltimore Oriole and many swallows\, sparrows\, and flycatchers. Some less common possibilities include Turkey Vulture\, Prairie Falcon\, Rock Wren\, Sprague’s Pipit and Spotted Towhee. \nThe Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation offers golf cart tours throughout the summer. These are available to the public and can be booked online. They focus on the Park’s history and general information. The regular golfcart tours are two hours in length and cost $25. \nFor 2022\, we will offer several trips specifically for Nature Calgary members. These will be three-hour tours from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM. These three-hour tours will be offered for $30 per person. There are two carts\, and each can accommodate five or six guests. They are also suited for folks with limited mobility.  The primary focus will be birding\, but there may be good wildflowers too. \nUpcoming dates: \n\nFriday\, June 3\nWednesday\, June 8\nSunday\, June 19\nWednesday\, June 29\nWednesday\, July 6\n\nTo Register Click https://grpf.ca/product/birding-golf-cart-tours/ \nYou will also be required to sign the standard Nature Calgary waiver when you arrive.

SUMMARY:Microscopic Pond Life:
DESCRIPTION:Microscopic Pond Life:  A single drop of water can contain a bewildering diversity of creatures. Join Dr. Matthew Morris on a participatory journey through the microcosmos\, as we explore the creatures that live in the ponds\, puddles\, and mosses of Calgary. This event will involve the use of microscopes in a lab setting. We will meet in the Ambrose University parking lot\, 150 Ambrose Circle SW\, at 3:00 PM for a brief safety demo\, and will then get to see some live critters through dissecting and compound microscopes. Expect to see the very small\, up close and personal! For safety reasons\, no one under the age of 10 and parental supervision will be required for minors. Maximum of 15 participants.
