SUMMARY:Griffith Woods Park
DESCRIPTION:This forested area is home to many birds. It’s also great for practicing birding by song as many of the birds are first (and sometimes only) heard. This walk is easy and the group will stay on paved pathways and mulched pathways. Children are welcome to join. This is a longer walk than most and is approximately 7km round trip\, there are no hills. Please meet in the Griffith Woods Parking Lot: https://goo.gl/maps/9JCcGy5z5cNosfb47 Binoculars are available for those who need them.

SUMMARY:Brown Lowrey PP
DESCRIPTION:This beautiful forested area provides excellent birding opportunities. There are washrooms available at the trailhead but not on the trails. The trail is packed woodchips and bare earth. There are many roots and uneven parts to the pathway. It can be icy and slippery and in some sections it is steep. It is not suitable for all mobilities. Please use your judgement. We welcome beginner to advanced birders. Although this trip is free we suggest to bring a small donation ($5) to contribute to the maintenance of these trails. The trails are maintained (to a quite high standard) by a group of volunteers. Binoculars will be available for those that need them.

SUMMARY:Glenbow Ranch Birding Golf Cart Trips
DESCRIPTION:The regular price is $40 per person. There is a discount code for NC members to get $10 off. Use Code NATURECALGARY24 \nHere’s a link to the registration page on our website: Public Programs – Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (grpf.ca) \nGlenbow Ranch Provincial Park contains some of the last remaining foothills fescue grassland as well as a scattered mosaic of wetlands and wooded areas. This diverse habitat provides home to a wide variety of bird species. Unfortunately\, many of the best birding locations are far from the parking lot. Join GRPF Conservation Program Coordinator Blake Weis and Steward Annie Finch to visit the best locations on a golf cart tour of up to four hours where we’ll cover nearly 20 km of trail. \nWe are likely to see or hear around 30 to 50 bird species. During spring and fall migration we can expect to find a wide variety of migrating birds such as warblers\, sparrows\, and raptors. The breeding season offers grassland and foothills specialties like Vesper Sparrow\, Mountain Bluebird\, and Western Meadowlark as well as riparian species like Baltimore Oriole and many swallows\, sparrows\, and flycatchers. Some uncommon possibilities include Turkey Vulture\, Prairie Falcon\, Rock Wren\, Sprague’s Pipit and Spotted Towhee. Late September also boasts stunning fall colors and possibly some early fall waterfowl migration. \nDress for all weather as it can be cold in the morning but very hot by the middle of the day. Most of the park is open grassland and is very exposed to the elements. We recommend bringing a jacket\, hat\, sunscreen\, sunglasses\, water\, snacks\, and of course binoculars or a camera. \nMeet at the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park parking lot (255001 Glenbow Road\, Cochrane \, AB). \nThis tour is only recommended for children who are specifically interested in birds and bird watching. All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nThe program will run rain or shine! However\, if inclement weather prevents GRPF from delivering the program safely\, you will receive a full refund. \nDates for the fall will be added later in the summer\, keep your eyes peeled!

SUMMARY:St. Patrick’s Island Birding
DESCRIPTION:Join Nature Calgary for a bird walk on St. Patrick’s Island on June 28\, 2024 and observe the fascinating variety of birds found in their natural habitat. Birds have been back for a few months and have started to have their young. We’ll see our Osprey on their nest plus we’re hoping to see the Kestrels back again for another year. We hope to see and hear our house wrens\, yellow warblers\, and red-winged blackbirds. We’ll look for tracks\, old nests\, and maybe even spot one of the beavers or mink that frequent the Island! Our knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights about the birds and other wildlife you encounter and and talk about their behaviours\, making this a great educational opportunity for nature enthusiasts of all ages. We will have binoculars available for participants who don’t have them. Space is limited so don’t miss your chance to discover the beauty and diversity of Calgary’s birdlife on this exciting nature walk! These walks are presented in partnership between East Village and Nature Calgary\, with all registration fees being donated directly to Nature Calgary. All walks will start and end at the East Village Headquarters\, located directly north of 656 Confluence Way SE on the RiverWalk pathway.
